Joint Statement from SCB, SCCL and SDECL

A joint communication from Shropshire Cricket Board (SCB) the Shropshire County Cricket League (SCCL) and the Shrewsbury & District Evening League (S&DECL)

The ECB’s decision to suspend all recreational cricket extends to indoor and outdoor training, pre-season friendlies and any associated cricket activity is fully endorsed by the SCCL Executive and the S&DECL. Accordingly, the start of the 2020 cricket season will be postponed until further notice.

Given the fast-moving, unprecedented situation we as a nation find ourselves in, we cannot specify a season start date. We will work together as the situation evolves and we will regularly communicate this to you. There are 3 key challenges

1. The health and safety of everyone involved in cricket – absolutely the top priority
2. The integrity and sustainability of cricket moving forward – where will we be when the crisis has passed
3. The financial impacts and the risks these bring; a key here is that everyone, as far as possible, works in partnership

Overseas Players

We advise all clubs NOT to incur any further costs associated to the engagement of an overseas player and advise them NOT to arrange their travel to the UK.

For any club with questions or concerns about currently contracted Overseas Players they should speak to the Agent, their legal representative and their committee before deciding on the next course of action.

Cricket Balls

SCCL have ordered cricket balls and these are due for delivery by courier in early April to the contacts each club nominated but clearly this could change. We will discuss with our suppliers and advise you accordingly. However, we do have contractual arrangements with our suppliers. Any club that will have immediate challenges in meeting the costs please get in touch with

The SCB has the prime responsibility for the collation of information to and from clubs. All correspondence will be made to clubs via email, through Play Cricket and social media. Cup Competitions

For now, as with all other cricket activity this is on hold.

Player Transfers

All transfers received up to 20 March will be honoured

Meetings & Courses

All meetings and courses as of today are cancelled until further notice.

Nat West Cricket Force

We strongly advise you to listen to Government advice and suspend your NatWest Cricket Force events.

When the time comes to restart recreational cricket activity, NatWest Cricket Force will be an opportunity for us to drive a celebration of the recreational game and provide a new focal point for clubs.

We advise all Clubs to check their individual insurance policies and liaise with their insurers to ensure their levels of cover in the event of closure during the cricket season.

We encourage you to continue with the care and maintenance of your grounds, so we are all good to go when the time arrives. We advise all clubs to follow Government advice with regards to social distancing. Click Here

Staying in Touch & Fundraising

It is going to be challenging for all of us and we would like to hear your thoughts and ideas of what plans you have to stay in touch with your members. How you will be engaging with them?

SCB have been in discussions with and will be rolling out the initiative county wide to help with opportunities of Fund Raising. These will be supported by webinars and a Help Desk to assist those new to this with getting started and those already registered maximising the opportunity. What ideas do you have for fundraising?

Please feel free to share your thoughts with us – let’s try and work together and help each other. Contact details are

Social Media

We understand everyone’s disappointment in not having any cricket and there will undoubtedly be more time spent on phones, tablets and laptops. Please encourage your members to be respectful when using social media and follow your club Social Media policies. #BeKind

All Shropshire Cricket partners appreciate the coming months will be difficult for all clubs and our primary concern is for the health, welfare and livelihoods of all our members and volunteers.

Moving forward we will act in the best interests of all clubs, their members and volunteers, plus all stakeholders and their ongoing sustainability.

Best wishes and keep in touch
