Dowley's Predictions vs Reality!

At the start of the season SCCL Committee member of 16 years and League stalwart, Jamie Dowley made his prediction for the 2019 Premier Division.

Now that the season is complete, let us see how he did in reality.

Allscott Heath

Verdict - They play it hard and know how to win, and if the Aussie hits his straps I’ve a feeling they will avoid any threat of relegation.

Reality - 10th place - Most of us would have written them off, but Jamie got this one correct.

Bomere Heath

Verdict - Bottom 3, but they will give it a real go and may take a few scalps along the way.

Reality - 12th place - The North Shropshire side will inevitably bounce back after Jamie's verdict became reality.

Verdict - If they had managed to pull off the signing of another BL player they could have had a real chance but will still be very competitive and mustn’t be taken lightly.

Reality - 8th place - They did beat some of the big teams but the South Shropshire finished in the mid table as predicted by Dowley.

Verdict - Far too strong a side to be at the wrong end of the table, I think they will be in that congested mid table and if the breaks go their way they could go even higher.

Reality - 9th place - Lack of availability of their big players has placed them here, but like Ludlow they could've been higher.

Verdict - A very experienced side who will fancy their chances. Their seam attack probably isn’t as good as other sides but don’t write them off.

Reality - 6th place - As per Jamie's comments, they were 4th for most of the year but a poor run of results placed them bang in the middle of the table.

Verdict - They have too much quality not to be very competitive and I expect a strong top half showing.

Reality - Runners Up - Spot on from Dowley with Quatt once again being the Bridesmaids, however they will be pleased to finish above their near neighbours of Worfield.

Verdict - They will rightly expect to be looking up the table rather than down it, but I do wonder if they are a team in a bit of a transition and this could be a rare off year.

Reality - 4th place - The best of the rest outside of the top 3, Dowley was not far wrong with this one!

St Georges

Verdict - They have strengthened their batting but bowling teams out could be an issue and  given the overall standard in the division has considerably improved, it could be a difficult season for St Georges.

Reality - 11th place - This Telfordian team were pipped at the post by Allscott Heath and Dowley was right to say that they would have a difficult season ahead.

Verdict: They will be a lot of peoples tip to go straight back to the Birmingham League but I think they may have to settle for a season or two of consolidation.

Reality - 5th place - A year where alot of young blood made up the team, possibly the start of a good future and certainly something they can build upon.

Verdict : Fully expect them to be battling for the title.

Reality - Champions - Back to Back Championships for Wem and Jamie was spot on with his prediction.

Verdict - Their bowling attack will win games but question marks over the depth of their batting order mean Whitchurch may find 3 or 4 teams above them come September.

Reality - 7th place - Not 3 or 4 teams above them, but actually 6, the 2017 champions will build on this and will be stronger in 2020

Verdict - They have a real solid look to their team, particularly the batting. If they could add the overseas signing they are still chasing late on (and preferably a seam bowler) then I think they will take all the beating.

Reality - 3rd place - They certainly challenged the champions, and will be pushing hard in 2020.
